Development Associate, Resource Development Division

United Way of Central New York

This is a Contract position in Syracuse, NY posted January 15, 2020.

Primary Objective Working under the direction of the Chief Development Officer, the Development Associate (DA) is responsible for developing, managing and expanding donor engagement and increased participation with the United Way of Central New York.

This position requires high-level confidentiality for access to a variety of confidential and proprietary information.

Overall Responsibilities Campaign Account Management
• Plan, organize and manage the annual United Way donor campaign for a portfolio of approximately 75-100 campaign accounts.

• Provide expertise and direction needed to volunteers to run a successful campaign.

Manage the development and coordination of activities within assigned accounts, including volunteer recruitment and support, setting objectives, and developing strategies for strengthening performance to maximize results.

• Assist in the development and implementation of a year-round strategic campaign and relationship program responsible for cultivating and enhancing workplace giving and building sustaining relationships with existing and non-giving employers, organizations and employees.

• Responsible for analysis of accounts, division goals and overall assigned campaign participants.

Seek New Accounts and Develop New Opportunities for Revenue
• Develop new opportunities for revenue and grow the donor base.

• Cultivate and develop relationships with individuals and employers to raise and leverage both financial and non-financial resources to achieve goals, including developing goals to increase participation and leadership levels.

• Prospect high potential and new business accounts/donors and keep current on information regarding companies (mergers, acquisitions, lay-offs, new hires) and individuals (promotions, etc.).

Management/Organization/Planning
• Maintain a current understanding of, and be able to articulate, United Way’s community impact model, initiatives, focus areas, activities, and results.

• Continuously update current and accurate campaign, donor and prospect information in database.

• Implement or assist with special projects; Involvement with boards and committees as needed.

• Keep current and up to date on UWW events/issues and the local non-profit climate.

• Provide support to division staff to plan and execute meaningful donor stewardship events.

Accountability: Chief Development Officer Position Status: Full-time, Hourly, Non-exempt Position Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business, Public Relations, Social Work, Communications or related field, or experience in fundraising, sales, public relations or human services.

Experience, Skills, Knowledge
• Two years or more of experience in fundraising, sales, or related area preferred.

Familiarity with non-profit sector.

• Strong Microsoft Office skills, including experience with Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Must have the ability to learn new and/or customized software.

Knowledge and expertise using customer relationship management systems a plus.

• Critical thinking and planning for finding creative approaches.

Successful problem solving.

Very detail oriented.

Strategic planning for short and long-term efforts.

• Experience and demonstrated skills in organization and management of multiple simultaneous projects and assignments with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.

• Proven ability to create and execute successful business plans that have engaged and deepened relationships with donors/clients.

Skilled in relationship building, recruitment and volunteer management.

• Process information with consideration for cultural sensitivities.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to relate effectively with a diverse group of individuals and organizations, including public speaking skills.

Must be able to carefully proof own work.

• Ability to analyze and manage a variety of data.

• Ability to work with individuals from all levels and backgrounds, to work well independently as well as part of a team, and to work in a fast-paced environment.

Demonstrated ability to work in a cross functional team environment.

• Must possess a valid driver’s license and have unrestricted use of a reliable automobile.
