The Director of the Academic Resource Center (ARC) will provide university-wide academic tutoring support services and leadership development for SHU undergraduate students through the ARC and Tutors-in-Residence Program.

The Director will serve as liaison between the ARC and the seven undergraduate colleges and coordinate the tutoring services, Supplemental Instruction, study skills workshops, test preparation workshops, etc.

for all undergraduate students.

The director will work with the directors of the Center for Academic Success, Writing Center, the Language Resource Center, the Developmental Math Program, Housing and Residence Life and the Office of Academic Support for Student-athletes to coordinate tutoring resources.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide supervision and leadership to the Academic Resource Center; manage the hiring, training and development of the program coordinator, student and professional tutors, and student administrative staff.
  • Research, develop and promote best practices in the Center’s services and programs including tutoring and tutor-training programs that are consistent with the mission of the University and the needs of its students.

    This includes leading the Tutors in Residence and Supplemental Instruction programs and the university’s Tutor Consortium.

  • Manage the university’s Academic Coaching Program – pair students with coaches, develop and facilitate workshops and trainings.
  • Participate in university retention and completion efforts and provide leadership on divisional committees as needed.
  • Identify and develop resources that will support students’ efforts to compete for national and international scholarships and fellowships.
  • Assist the College of Nursing, Enrollment Services, & the Office of Disability Support Services when needed to monitor exams with specific accommodations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master degree with 5-8 years of related experience
