Human Resources Manager

This is a Full-time position in Portage, MI posted November 11, 2021.

We are seeking a Human Resources Manager who will be responsible for developing and implementing policy, directing and overseeing all human resource activities, processing payroll, team member relations and provides support to all levels of the management team.
Responsibilities of the Human Resources Manager include:
  • Develop, implement and administer company policy and procedure in conjunction with the HR Director
  • Oversee all functions of human resources such as employment, recruiting, compensation, team member relations, benefits, training, employee services, and payroll
  • Administer compensation, benefits and performance management systems, and recreation programs
  • Identify staff vacancies and recruit, interview and select applicants
  • Provide current and prospective team members with information about policies, job duties, working conditions, wages, opportunities for promotion and employee benefits
  • Perform staffing duties, including dealing with understaffing, conflict resolution, investigations, consistently administering disciplinary procedures and terminations
  • Advise managers on organizational policy and legal matters
  • Analyze and modify compensation and benefits policies to establish competitive programs and ensure compliance with legal requirements
  • Plan and conduct new team member orientation to foster positive attitude toward organizational objectives
  • Serve as a link between management and team members by handling questions, interpreting and administering policy and helping resolve work-related problems
  • Plan, direct, supervise, and coordinate work activities of subordinates and staff relating to employment, compensation, benefits, team member relations, and community relations
  • Analyze training needs to design team member development
  • Maintain records and compile statistical reports concerning personnel-related data such as turnover, and absenteeism rates
  • Analyze statistical data and reports to identify and determine causes of personnel problems and develop recommendations for improvement of organization’s personnel policies and practices
  • Conduct exit interviews to identify reasons for team member termination
  • Prepare personnel forecast to project employment needs
  • Oversee the evaluation, classification and rating of occupations and job positions
  • Develop and/or administer special projects as requested by management of as determined by business needs
  • Consult legal counsel to ensure that policies comply with federal and state law
  • Consult legal counsel on immigration related issues and sign off on related paperwork
  • Administration of unemployment and disability compensation
  • Participate on Safety Committee
  • Capable of working with plant level employees as well as upper management
  • This position will have 4 individuals reporting directly to them.

    Job Requirements:

    Requirements for the Human Resources Manager include the following:
    Work Experience:
  • 10 years of progressive experience in the Human Resource in manufacturing and automotive
  • 5 years of HR Manager level responsibility
  • Experience working in a lean manufacturing plant is a plus
  • Experience with payroll and benefit programs
  • Must have a working with EEO, FMLA, FLSA and other related employment laws
  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or equivalent degree, a master’s degree is preferred
  • Technical Skills:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to prioritize work activities on a daily basis
  • Must be able to handle multiple project and handle competing priorities
  • Computer Skills:
  • Must be proficient using MS Office applications such as Excel and Word.
  • Have a working knowledge of HRIS systems and be able to navigate supporting system
