Payroll Manager

This is a Contract position in Los Angeles, CA posted June 7, 2021.

We are looking for someone who can manage and process all payroll operations, including the HR components of payroll.Main duties include:Track and process employee changes – Collect and input new hire paperwork (Direct Deposit, W-4, Offer of Employment information, Time off policies, deductions, ACA information, etc.) – Track and record employee changes (pay rates, status, deductions, time off policies, and leaves of absences) – Coordinate with health & benefits specialist during open enrollment and on an ongoing basis as necessary to ensure deductions are correct- Serve as point person for CalSavers enrollment, deductions and payments- Track terminations and resignations to ensure final checks and paperwork are ready and terminations are processed in system. – Answer questions from and provide information to employees and employee managers- Point person regarding employee leaves of absence, including processing paperwork, communicating with employee, determining parameters of leave, etc.Oversee payroll processing- Manage payroll clerks, both leading up to payroll and during semi-monthly payroll processing. Review payroll registers/paystubs and thoroughly check for errors in pay, deductions, time off, etc.- Record payroll & payroll tax journal entries properly in QuickBooks and perform reconciliations- Perform pay stub audits regularly- Responsible for proper storage of payroll registers, payroll tax returns, and annual reportsEnsure compliance with applicable laws- Stay up to date on all relevant IRS and HR principles and guidelines, including COVID-19 time off regulations.- Ensure compliance with changing regulations, such as changes in minimum wage and threshold for exempt status.Work closely with:- External payroll company’s representatives to troubleshoot issues- Health & Benefits/COBRA Specialist – Company managers to make sure they have submitted proper paperwork, answer questions regarding payroll discrepancies, proactively ask questions when payroll entries seem different than usual, etc.- Finance Director/Controller to assist with annual reporting and worker comp renewalsQualifications:- 5+ years working in payroll, including experience with deductions, multiple time off policies, and both exempt & non-exempt employees- Thorough understanding of applicable leaves of absences and how they are administered and documented- Knowledge of California payroll laws- QuickBooks Desktop proficient with knowledge of bookkeeping principles- Microsoft Office Skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)- Knowledge of basic HR principles- Must be detail-oriented and organized- Must have excellent follow-through and ability to anticipate issues before they arise- Previous experience managing others- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal- Ability to explain complicated payroll processes or regulations to those who are not familiar with the field.
