Payroll Tax Manager

This is a Full-time position in Atlanta, GA posted June 9, 2021.

Our client, located in Duluth, is in search of a Payroll Tax Manager to join their team.

This role will be responsible for establishing payroll processing standards, timeframes, and communications to handle all tax obligations effectively and efficiently with tax partners

· Partner with payroll tax vendor (ADP) responsible for remittances and payments to agencies for tax administration.

Ensure all payroll tax accounts are balanced and remitted timely

· Ensure compliance, regulatory reporting and remittance and adherence to all payroll tax requirements

· Provide detailed review and approval of 940 and 941

· Reconcile tax filings for various companies in multiple states and provinces and respond to federal, state, and local tax notices

· Ensure accurate and timely issuance of year-end tax statements (W-2 and T-4)

· Serve as a subject matter expert and point of contact for all payroll tax related requests

· Develop and implement payroll tax policies, procedures, and process improvements to maintain the quality, efficiency, and overall effectiveness of the team

· Provide support for tax audits and answer inquiries from various taxing jurisdictions

· Research, interpret and understand existing or revised tax codes, laws, or forms

· Provide analysis, advice, and counsel to business leaders about the impacts of regulatory changes

· Maintain collaborative relationships with in-house counsel for definitive rulings and guidance on compliance issues and audit requests

· Manage the review and testing of payroll software tax updates, updates unemployment tax rates in payroll software

· Reconcile GL tax accounts and prepares related journal entries for accounting department monthly

· Establish and maintain relationships with third parties/vendors

· Lead, supervise and develop the payroll tax team member(s) and ensure they are successful and are demonstrating the company’s values while providing superior customer service to all employees

· Mentor employees, conduct performance evaluations and facilitate individual and team development that drives positive results

· Ensure that all operational processes are controlled from a risk perspective, and have built-in control plans and assessments to regularly review their effectiveness

· Evaluate, develop, and enforce the use of audit tools which support the payroll tax administration process

· Identify payroll vulnerabilities and opportunities for improvement

· Responsible for continuous process improvement identified through root-cause analysis

· Drive projects to create efficiencies, improve quality of service delivery, and increase customer satisfaction

· Ensure the confidentiality and retention of payroll information and records in accordance with established policies

· Compile and analyze operational and management reports, including ad hoc reports, as requested

· Ensure appropriate staff training and cross-training, reviews staff performance and recommends hiring, termination, promotions, etc.

· Perform all duties inherent in a management role

What you need to succeed:

· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university

· 7+ years of progressive responsible Payroll Tax Administration

· Knowledge of payroll management and data, administration, tax and accounting principles, and applicable federal, state, and local laws

· Experience in US and Canadian tax administration required including year end reconciliation and processing

· Strong communication skills and demonstrated analytical and strategic skills, with the ability to influence others

· Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, global environment and experience with merger/acquisitions a plus

· Ability to organize, multi-task, prioritize, work under time constraints to meet critical deadlines, supervise, and train staff

· Must be self-motivated and able to work in a team-oriented environment with an emphasis on total customer satisfaction

· Continuous improvement mind-set

· Experience with ADP Tax Reporting, Kronos and/or multiple payroll and timekeeping systems

· Experience with PeopleSoft to include table set-up and testing

· Strong proficiency with MS Excel is required, must have knowledge and expertise of advanced excel functionality (advanced formulas, linked spreadsheets, pivot tables, formatting reports in excel, charts & graphs, etc.)
