Resource Security Officer – Shoreline ED

Middlesex Hospital

This is a Contract position in Essex, CT posted September 16, 2020.

Part Time 30 Hours Per WeekSummary:Welcomes all patients and customers to the facility, offering assistance in a professional caring manner.Depending on the area and needs these officers would fill other roles:Greeters / Guest ServicesTransportersVisitor Control (visitor ID and management)Parking AttendantTo protect people and assets from harm and provide the best experience possible by enhancing the arrival and departure of our guests. To provide a safe and secure environment for all persons utilizing the Hospital premises and to maintain situation awareness, preventing hazardous conditions such fire, thefts, vandalism and other crimes.Duties and Responsibilities:Assists patients with transport, directions, or information, offering assistance in a pleasant, courteous tone in addition, assists patient with sign-in process and immediately communicates identified issues to Patient Access Coordinator and/or Manager.Ensures that only authorized persons are admitted on to hospital premises and assists them if necessary with directions and destination by following the department guidelines listed in manual and post orders.Responds to emergencies per Department procedures; responding quickly and safely and renders proper assistance. Notifies supervisor of action taken. Makes necessary reports and documentation when necessary according to Department Manual Policy.Provides assistance to patients/customers by obtaining wheelchairs, or other services as needed. Escorts patients who need assistance to their destination within the facility.Evaluates persons entering to determine if they pose a threat to the hospital security by monitoring all persons who enter and questioning and observing any suspicious behavior.Reports all unusual incidents and conditions immediately and notifies appropriate positions, according to the post regulations and training guide.Operates and follows visitor management procedures at designated location.Assists in the training of new staff/volunteers.Ensures use of proper safety techniques. Utilizes appropriate and available patient movement assistive devices (e.g. Hovermatt, Hoyer lift) as trained when required. Utilizes Universal Precaution techniques at all times. Utilizes correct patient moving/lifting techniques.Checks equipment before use to ensure required transportation equipment is in good working order and safe for use, sending for maintenance as required. Maintains cleanliness of patient transportation equipment. Ensures necessary patient transportation equipment is available to transport patients.Responds to requests for lifting/moving patients.Maintains a clean and safe environment.Adheres to all Core Values. Other job related duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:High School diploma or equivalent.Current driver’s license.Successful completion of a Connecticut State of CT Security Officer ID Card Course (Card pending).Ability to interpret written and oral instructions.Strong communication skills – Ability to communicate verbally via telephone and radio equipment.Basic computer knowledge.Excellent vision (with or without corrective lenses).Able to assist with patient mobility.Ability to use good judgment and remain calm in high-stress situationsCompletion of IAHSS (International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security) Basic Training for Healthcare Security Officer within 6 months.Preferred Qualifications:Associates or Bachelor’s degree.Six (6) months experience as a security officer in a hospital or healthcare setting, prior law enforcement or military service; or one (1) year experience as a security officer.
