Senior Manager, US and PR Payroll

Our location in Abbott Park, IL, currently has an opportunity for a Senior Manager, US and PR Payroll.  

The Senior Manager of Payroll is a member of the Global HR Services Team reporting to the Director of US and PR Payroll Operations. The position is responsible for leading and developing the team responsible for the execution of payroll processing, payroll tax reporting and compliance, and project delivery; in addition to providing guidance and direction to Payroll colleagues and business partners for various Federal, State and Local legislations. The position requires the ability to effectively multi-task, prioritize work, demonstrate accountability and effectively collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders.

WHAT YOU’LL DO  

  • Responsible for managing the day to day operations of the United States and Puerto Rico multi-state payroll function servicing over 25,000 employees and 30 legal entities with oversight of hours to gross calculations, taxes, garnishments, benefit deductions, health and welfare contributions, paycheck printing and distribution
  • Manage the team responsible for reporting and filing quarterly payroll taxes; the preparation of W-2 forms including quarterly balancing and reconciliation; coordinate the process for preparing and processing tax registrations;
  • Accountable for process integrity, internal and SOX controls and ensure compliance with all applicable legal regulations;
  • Partner with the finance and accounting team to post payroll journal entries and complete account reconciliations
  • Liaison with Workday IT and Finance teams to determine account mapping for all pay components and deduction types   
  • Ability to work closely with senior executives on individual payroll needs
  • Prepare payroll metrics reports for weekly and pay runs that support the payroll tax funding, reports for division finance teams and ad-hoc request inquiries from Finance, Treasury, Tax and internal/external auditors
  • Promote a positive team environment. Provide effective leadership oversight, coaching and counseling to support staff    
  • Ability to think strategically and manage expectations in a high-touch environment
  • Ability to partner with stakeholders to effectively address issues; ability to proactively anticipate problems, identify opportunities and confidently define solution/initiatives to drive resolution
  • Accountable for managing the tax process and amended tax returns for federal, state and local payroll taxes 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE, YOU’LL BRING  

Required  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting, HR or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional relevant Payroll Operations Management experience.
  • Deep operational and technical payroll knowledge including payroll taxes and benefits.
  • Experience payroll tax filing, registrations and accounting
  • Experience conducting multi-state filing and registration for a large company
  • Knowledge of related tax rules and regulations
  • Detail oriented and have an eye for accuracy
