This is a Full-time position in Portland, OR posted June 12, 2019.

the : ESA seeks an experienced Hydraulics Engineer for our northwest practice.

The Hydraulics Engineer will support and/or lead bridge, culvert and channel hydraulic projects within the northwest Environmental Hydrology and Design (EHD) Business Group. The EHD Business Group is comprised of engineers, landscape architects, geologists, scientists, and other design professionals who work in collaborative multidisciplinary teams. This position may be filled in Portland or Seattle.

The ideal candidate will have technical background in civil and water resources engineering, hydraulics, hydrology and geomorphology, with a demonstrated ability to work in multidisciplinary teams on water resource projects. Specific project experience in fluvial restoration, bridge and culvert hydraulic design, and hydraulic modeling is desired.

He or she will have experience leading design professionals in a collaborative manner that engenders an inclusive work environment, design innovation, and mentorship. The candidate will have established networks in Washington and Oregon with a demonstrated ability to market clients and win work.

Primary Include: Perform detailed engineering studies, perform, oversee and interpret modeling and similar types of analysis, and lead and support fluvial engineering projects with an emphasis in culvert and bridge hydraulic design; Prepare feasibility studies and conceptual designs, develop probable cost of construction, and oversee the preparation of detailed engineering plans and specifications; Complete field investigations and prepare design reports and memoranda to document analyses; Prepare plans and specifications through project development milestones, assist clients with bidding, perform construction observation services, and monitor completed projects; Manage projects from initiation to close out including negotiating scopes of work and being accountable for meeting schedule and budget requirements; Participate in business development, marketing and client stewardship activities including identifying project opportunities, preparing proposals, and leading interview teams to win and secure work; Perform quality assurance and quality control functions consistent with the company’s QA/QC Plan; Meet and coordinate with clients, agencies, stakeholders, and contractors to achieve project goals; and Present project and technical work to clients, agencies, peers and the public.

degree in Civil / Water Resources Engineering; additional M.S.

degree preferred with emphasis in hydrology/hydraulics, geomorphology and engineering.

Licensed Professional Engineer in Oregon and Washington or the ability to receive licensure through reciprocity.

Minimum of 8 years of experience in engineering analysis and design of bridge and culvert projects including scour analyses and countermeasure design, ecological restoration, and bioengineered bank stabilization.

Ability to take responsible charge for engineering designs developed collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams.

Strong leadership abilities, collaborative personality and excellent written and oral communication skills.

Additional Desired Skills: Experience with applied geomorphology in fluvial systems and sediment transport modeling.

Experience using HEC-RAS, HY-8 and similar hydraulic models and computational procedures.

Experience with stormwater planning, designing and monitoring; including innovative design solutions.

Experience working with resource agencies (e.g., the U.S.

Army Corps of Engineers, ODOT, WSDOT etc.), municipalities, tribes, ports, salmon recovery organizations and similar entities.

Business savvy and entrepreneurial approach.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Excellent time management skills.

Ability to travel (including occasional overnight travel) and work in a wide range of field conditions.
